I've heard it said, "the real definition of beauty is the emanation of your soul." This rings true for me.
When I hold the camera up to a person, it is my instinct to capture a person's spirit and truth. In anticipating when to click the shutter, I try to 'feel' when the right moments are coming. My main point of focus is always a subject's eye's. It is here I find endless beauty.
Headshots
I enjoy working with actors, performers and other artists because I like working with people who are asking to be seen and heard. I am inspired by people who have the courage to emote, create and.... to shine. Simply put, I love helping people shine.
I have always believed a headshot should be an organic (and not a contrived) representation of an actor. I believe it is an actor's unique human essence that casting directors and the public will be responding to most. Your casting / marketing type IS important and I will cater to this requirement in the headshot process. I do feel strongly however, that your 'type' should not speak louder than you.
Not all of the people I work with are instantly free and confident in front of the camera. Many clients have told me that they've dreaded their headshot sessions in the past. I definitely understand this feeling. Luckily, I seem to have a knack for setting a relaxed and easy going environment. My style is naturally supportive and nurturing. I will give you clear, but subtle direction that will allow you plenty of room to breathe and move freely in the shoot. Once you are relaxed, I'm confident I can take care of the rest. Finally, I like to keep the shoot and you moving to different locations. I find this helps keep the energy up and the shooting process fluid. The experience should be fun.
